Other people may want or need a plain and professional space to hide any household clutter in their workspace. Some people may be like me and want to pretend to be working from some exotic or fantastical location. Why use a virtual background? Why not! Personally, I would rather be working from the bridge of the Enterprise than from my tiny and cramped apartment space, and the closest I can get is with a virtual background. Many of the video conferencing programs allow for users to upload their own custom virtual backgrounds. Even with places beginning to open up, a lot of companies are maintaining a remote presence for their employees and video conferences are a thing now. "Otherwise the person obstructs it." Instead, he suggests putting the eye-catching part of the image to one side and then positioning yourself on the other side.With the majority of the world hunkering down and either closing temporarily or working remotely, there has been a massive increase in the number of users attending meetings virtually. Ben opens a Google Slides presentation and starts with a blank, white slide.
Ben is no amateur, so all of his tips relate to the green screen feature. It's a simpler set-up, but you risk having your disembodied face float pixelated across the screen in the middle of a professional call. Ben's understanding is that Zoom uses some sort of facial recognition software, detects what's attached to the face, and removes everything else. Instead, you can upload any image and use it as your background. Since Ben first discovered the feature in 2018, Zoom has upgraded its options so that you don't need to use a physical green screen.
